Reaching Your Community is Hard

Many Christians feel guilty when the word evangelism is mentioned, and most feel fearful and ill equipped to talk to others about the gospel. With the rising apathy and hostility from our society, fewer and fewer believers are actively engaging in the call to reach the lost. And fewer and fewer non-Christians are coming to church. That’s why most of the new folks that join our churches are the result of transfer growth (Christians moving from one church to another) rather than conversion growth.

“The Proclaim Course has been practically equipping and biblically motivating Christians to share their faith for over 20 years.”

As a pastor what do you do? This is where Proclaim can help. The Proclaim Course has been practically equipping and biblically motivating Christians to share their faith for over 20 years. Designed to be done in small groups, each of the four video sessions and discussion questions, will inspire you to join God in the unstoppable spread of the gospel!

Mark Prater

Executive Director | Sovereign Grace Churches

“As a Christian, and as a pastor, evangelism is an area that I desire to grow in and do more consistently. Therefore, I was thrilled when my small group went through the Proclaim Course together. Our group benefitted from the teaching of Jim Donohue, who is a true evangelist, because he knows how to equip, inspire, and challenge you to share the gospel with those who don’t know Jesus. The Proclaim Course is biblically grounded, rich in its theology, and at the same time practical in providing ideas for how to proclaim the gospel effectively. Of course, you can take the Proclaim Course as an individual and you will benefit from it. The advantage of taking the course with a small group is the fellowship we enjoyed over evangelism, and the stories we shared as we sought to share the gospel with others, all of which encouraged us to continue to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ. Our small group found the Proclaim Course more than helpful and worth our time.”

FAQs

The Proclaim Course is designed to equip and motivate Christians to share their faith. Designed for small groups, the course provides four video sessions with discussion questions that will inspire believers to join God in the unstoppable spread of the gospel.

We’ve written Proclaim for anyone desiring to grow in evangelism. The sessions speak to those who feel confident and excited as well as those who feel intimidated and weak in sharing their faith.

The course includes four 25-minute messages with discussion questions following each message. It works best when completed in four consecutive small group meetings but could also work in a Sunday School class context. Because evangelism is intimidating to many, it’s best to work the course into a pre-existing structure like small groups rather than to create a separate seminar. The latter will draw those naturally given to evangelism, and others who, would most benefit, will probably opt out. Small groups, youth groups, Sunday School classes, and other ongoing gatherings work great.

We suggest running the course every three years to capture new members and others who are currently attending your church.

Apart from the small cost of the “How Good Are You?” booklets needed for session four, the course is totally free!

Consider encouraging those who came to your church after the course ended to watch the videos online. You could provide a lunch or dinner where someone leads through selected discussion questions. Another option is to run smaller courses once a year so that new people can be equipped to share their faith.

After the Proclaim Course, you can encourage people to participate in what we call a “Gospel Outreach.” They can travel as a group to a college campus, park, or mall, then pair up and share the gospel using the “Spiritual Questionnaire” and the “How Good are You?” booklet. This could become a monthly opportunity.
